Bloom hard — liberica swells more than arabica. Give it 45 seconds before your first pour.
Liberica — the rare species your barista hasn't tasted. Grown on Malaysian soil, roasted for jackfruit, cocoa and smoke.
Jackfruit, ripe and up front
Dark cocoa, bitter-sweet
A woodsmoke that lingers
Tanah means earth. This is how ours gets to your cup.
Kluang, Johor — iron-rich earth
Volcanic-adjacent ground, red and mineral, feeding roots most farms never think to try.
Liberica — 5% of world coffee
A different species entirely — bigger leaves, bigger cherries, a taste nobody standardized.
Roasted in 12kg batches, medium-dark
Small batches, turned by hand, until the sugars just catch and no further.
Jackfruit · dark cocoa · woodsmoke
Jackfruit up front, cocoa underneath, a last note of smoke that stays in the room.
Single origin · Liberica

Liberica behaves differently to arabica. Three ways we like it.
Bloom hard — liberica swells more than arabica. Give it 45 seconds before your first pour.
Coarse grind, full four minutes — the extra steep is what brings the woodsmoke forward.
Traditional Malaysian kopi — no milk, a little gula melaka if you want it, drunk hot off the stove.
Because almost nobody else does. Liberica makes up roughly 5% of the world's coffee, against arabica's 60% and robusta's 35% — most drinkers have never had a cup. It grows differently, ripens differently, and tastes nothing like either: bigger, rounder, closer to fruit than to the roasted-nut register most coffee lives in. We think that's worth putting in a bag.
Medium-dark, roasted in 12kg batches so we can watch each one closely. Liberica beans are denser and more irregularly sized than arabica, so they need a slower, more attentive roast to develop evenly — push too fast and the jackfruit note disappears under char.
Free shipping across West Malaysia on orders over RM 80; a flat RM 12 below that. East Malaysia and international orders are calculated at checkout. We roast every Monday and ship within 48 hours, so your bag is never sitting in a warehouse for weeks before it reaches you.
Yes — we supply a small number of cafés and roasteries across Johor and the Klang Valley with green and roasted lots. Volumes are limited by what the farm can pick, so wholesale accounts are onboarded gradually. Email wholesale@tanahcoffee.my with your monthly volume to start a conversation.
Every bag is stamped with its roast date, not a vague best-before. The one-way valve lets CO2 escape without letting air in, so flavor holds well for 4–6 weeks — but it peaks in the first three. We'd rather you drink it too soon than let it sit.
