Full strip and re-cover in Welsh slate or clay pantile, matched to what's either side of you and relaid to the traditional gauge.

Leadwork & flashings
Code 5 and 6 lead, hand-dressed on site to valleys, chimneys and abutments — the joints a roof can't overlap its own way out of.

The craft
Slower than the trade needs to be.
Every street has its own roofscape — the pitch, the coursing, the colour of stone quietly agreed on by generations of roofers who came before us. When we take on a terrace we source reclaimed Welsh slate or handmade clay pantiles that match what's either side, not what's cheapest to get delivered. A roof that fights its neighbours was never worth doing.
Quarried slate doesn't arrive ready to lay. We dress each one by hand — trimming it square, working the edges, checking it rings true and isn't laminating inside. It's slower than working off a machine-cut batch, and it's the only way to know the roof going up will still be watertight when your grandchildren are paying for something else entirely.
We take on an apprentice every couple of years, always local, always taught the way Dan was taught by his father: on the roof, in the weather, starting with a hammer and a bag of nails and no shortcuts. Roofing this way doesn't scale. It's the only way we know to keep the trade, and the standard, alive past us.
